Best Travel Size Hair Products

While you may have your hair routine down when you’re in the comfort of your own home, that all can easily go quite awry when you’re on the road traveling.  It may not be a huge issue if you are going to one destination for a week and checking a bag, but any trip where you are trying to consolidate everything into a carry-on for multiple weeks, might be a bit more challenging in the “what to pack for my hair” department.  Trust me, I have learned this the hard way.  First, when I brought everything and anything pertaining to hair along with me on my three-month backpacking trip to Europe.  That “everything” included a travel hair dryer, travel hair straightener, and full-sized curling iron along with brushes and travel size hair products like dry shampoo, etc.  Needless to say, my back still hurts six years later.  The next time, I went the ultra minimalist route in terms of bringing the essentials as evidenced by this awful screenshot of a clip from a vlog I clearly did not include in the video because I never wanted this to see the light of day

What did I do wrong? I skimped…I only brought my Wet Brush which is the perfect brush for detangling wet hair and combing through on the daily, but I didn’t bring a round brush to blow-dry my hair with and smooth out the flyaways. Not only did my hair look like crap, but I felt bad about myself because my hair was a frizzy nightmare disaster.  So that’s why I feel incredibly qualified now to give you all the tips on the best travel products for hair because I have been through IT ALL.  And, if you are looking at the previous photo and saying to yourself, “no way am I taking hair advice from that chick,” then I’ll include this photo here to show you that generally, on the day to day, my hair looks pretty good…if I do say so myself.

Best Travel Hair Dryer

If you’re on the fence about bringing a travel hair dryer, I get it.  Most hotels and even airbnbs have a blow dryer in the bathroom. Depending on how critical your hair dryer is to your routine, you may decide that you want to bring one along, just in case there isn’t one available.  If you’re one of those people that can blow dry like you just got out of a hair appointment, and you only use a hair dryer and no other tools, then you should definitely bring a mini travel hair dryer with you just to be safe. I typically let my hair air dry and then I curl it with a Hot Tools Curling Iron, so depending on the length of the trip, I don’t necessarily bring one along.  However, when I need to get my hair dried ASAP, I use the Conair 1875W travel blow drier both on the road and as my hair dryer at home since I love it so much.  When looking for a travel size hair dryer, you want to make sure that it is lightweight, dual voltage, and folds easily.  Here are some of the best travel hair dryers on the market:

Best Travel Size Shampoo and Conditioner

If you have your standard size favorite shampoo and conditioner, then check to see on Amazon or Target if they make that in a travel size.  You are already comfortable with the product and know it works well with your hair.  If they don’t or you really just use whatever shampoo is on sale at CVS, then you can either buy travel size shampoo and conditioner or travel shampoo bottles to put your current product in.  Here are some of the best travel shampoo and conditioner sets as well as the best leakproof, silicone travel bottles for toiletries:

Best Travel Size Hairspray, Travel Size Mousse, Travel Hair Gel for Men, and the Holy Grail…Travel Dry Shampoo!!

One of the main loves of my life is Batiste dry shampoo. I have naturally dry hair, and if you just said to yourself, “ooh that sucks, ” think again.  I get to be lazy and only have to wash my hair once or twice a week and it doesn’t get greasy.  At least, no one has complained to me yet.  So on the days that I don’t wash, I use my Batiste…seriously one of the most glorious products ever invented.  The product isn’t perfect.  You need to shake it up well because it will leave white residue and make your hair a bit gray if you don’t comb it through with your fingers.  Also, if you are not a perfume fan then the smells might be a bit strong for you.  I don’t like the original scent…my favorites are Blush and Crisp.  But, if you can get past all that, then Batiste really reduces any and all grease in your hair and volumizes superbly well.  The rest of the travel size hair products are essential items for those that are looking for the best travel size hair mousse, travel hairspray, and travel size hair gel; but, just as I said above, if you have a product that you regularly use at home, first see if they make it in a travel size!

Travel Hair Straighteners

I couldn’t find a link to my all-time favorite travel size flat iron, the Remington Wet 2 Straight Compact Straightener, but will continue to keep a look out for a restock or another alternative. Luckily, there are other great travel straighteners on the market. I included a couple of mini straighteners as well as a CHI travel flat iron and hair dryer set. The BaByblissPRO is a classic travel size hair straightener that works especially well for travelers with short hair or people who want to fix the flyaways or bangs shaping their face. The same goes for the AmoVee mini travel flat iron.  If you have a long, thick head of hair, you may want to bring a standard size straightener instead for maximum effect.  The CHI travel set comes with a hair dryer with a collapsible handle and a CHI straightener and curler with 3/4″ tourmaline ceramic plates.  All of these flat irons are dual voltage.

CHI Air Classic Travel 2 Piece Collection Straightening Iron 11 x 7 x 3 inches 1 pound Read reviews on Amazon here

Travel Size Hair Brush

If you’re on the search for the best travel hair brush, there are a bunch of great options.  Wet Brush makes a mini travel comb which not only detangles your hair, but also does not rip your hair out in the process (always a plus).  The Tangle Teezer Compact Styler is a folding travel hair brush; it is not only compact and easy to pack, but also covered to protect the bristles. I also included a very well-reviewed hair straightener brush because even though this isn’t as compact, you are essentially combining a brush and a flat iron in one.  The straightening brush not only detangles, but also rids hair of frizz and maintains natural shine. AsaVea has one of the best hair straightening brushes on the market because it has a ceramic surface, heats up in 1 minute, universal voltage, and auto shut off after 30 minutes of use.

Wet Brush Multi-Pack Squirt Detangler Hair Brushes 9 x 4.5 x 3.5 inches Read reviews on Amazon here

AsaVea Hair Straightener Brush 10.8 x 2.8 x 1.8 inches Read reviews on Amazon here
